Doomstar! ring in 2011 with some feedback and reverb. They're working on a new record with producer Justin Pizzoferrato, who just did Young Adults debut LP and has also recorded Dinosaur Jr. and Sonic Youth. "Sea Gull" comes from the Rainbow Bloodsucker sessions, which was one of the best things to come out of Boston last year. You can download this single for free at their bandcamp.

pRIMEORDIAL sOUNDS Presents :: 12/1 Hands and Knees with Magic Magic @ Middlesex

Boston garage rocksters Doomstar have taken over The Middlesex Lounge in Cambridge on the first magical Wednesday of every month. The first show they'll be having is a favorite, Hands and Knees, with Magic Magic. Noah and Spenser from Doomstar will also be spinning 60's garage and psych records in between sets. As if that wasn't awesome enough, the show is FREE. It starts at 10PM. Really hope this catches on, so I can go when I get back from Spain. So go in my stead, and tell me about it. I will give you a present.

While you're at it, check out the blog attached to aforementioned events, primordialsounds.blogspot.com

Cymbals Eat Guitars, Bear in Heaven, Feelance Whales Live at the Middle East Downstairs 4/8/10

Coming off their recent debut Why There Are Mountains, the Middle East Downstairs was host to the carnage of a swarm of floating cymbals taking down some guitars like savannah gazelles in a school cafeteria and having a food fight with them.

Each band seemed to draw their own crowds. An electric guitar balances against a banjo resting on an acoustic guitar like a house of cards in sound, but never even quivers like its going to fall. This image essentially summed up the swooning pop of Freelance Whales. Seeing unconventional instruments like a tin watering can and an antique harmonium in a rock band just added to the giddy that covered the crowd like the soft baby blue fabric of the organ's bellows. The singer of Bear in Heaven proudly remarked that they played for one single person at T.T. the Bear's Place the last time they were in Boston. The band's drone gloom washed with blood red light had you wondering if the guitarist was playing anything at all until you realized how good they were at transforming guitar strings into synth keys.

Preview :: Kingsley Flood

Download "Kingsley Flood - Cul De Sac"
(right click, save link as)

Kingsley Flood is a five to six piece playing new age Americana. Beside the regular instruments they throw in a mandolin and fiddle. And an old Christians & Lion's chum fills the arrangement out with trumpet, melodica, triangle, and, of course, kazoo.

It's a little steam-punk in that they're trying to take modern events and personal situations and sonically place them in an earlier time of America. It's like a collection of stories from when you could go out to play stickball in between classes at the university, and the hobo on the corner, filling his spindle with pickle sandwiches, was just your neighborhood buddy. Imagine yourself now, with whatever personal strife and struggle, placed in a time where people broke out into jigs and square dancing right in the street, around the cats wearing tall hats with the top popped through and there was never a short supply of overall wearing bands that had at least one washboard and also played a clay bottle with XXX on it. The only thing you had to worry about was the devil, who was seemingly hiding behind every tree, desperate to offer that spread in Time magazine you've really wanted in exchange for your soul.

Kingsley Flood is playing in studio on WERS on March 23rd. Their full length Dust Windows comes out April 3rd.

And they have tea parties in dumpsters!
