Desaparecidos Vinyl Reissue

The ironic punk rock side project of Bright Eyes' Conor Oberst has just been reissued on vinyl. This is a brilliant record, where Conor pulls off strong and clever social commentary as a shouting match against conventional American culture. I bought the vinyl on Ebay, a year or two ago thinking that it would never see the light of day. I got it for $50. You can now buy it for $15. And it comes with a bonus 7" that has the amazing song "What's New for Fall" on it. I wish I could just buy the 7". The packaging for both the vinyl and the cd are clever as hell. The cover depicts a residential planning project over the beautiful, wide open spaces of Omaha. The cd has the houses on a piece of transparent paper that can be peeled off to reveal the golden fields. Although the vinyl lacks this, inside there is a manila envelope that contains the lyrics, but in the form of a housing project proposal. Clever as hell. This record is a crucial classic, yet sadly obscure piece of musical culture.

Avey Tare :: Down There :: Stream the Whole Album from NPR

Both spooky and goofy, digi and folky, Avey Tare's first proper solo is Down There. He just might be my favorite part of Animal Collective. The record reminds me a lot of the very early Panda Bear / Avey Tare collaboration :: Spirit They've Gone, Spirit They've Vanished. The songs drag a little bit, but there's always something interesting. It's why I think Avey and Panda are a good match, they balance each other out. The art that goes along with the album is also really interesting.

(hosted by pitchfork)

The cover reminds me a lot of Oogie Boogie from The Nightmare Before Christmas

Emperor X :: Burying Music in the Dirt, A Geocaching Adventure

One of the coolest things I've ever heard someone doing in the name of promotions, Emperor X will be burying cassettes of some demos that could possibly never be heard by human ears. He's going to post the GPS coordinates online and whoever finds the tape gets to keep it. There will also be codes for secret downloads too apparently. Kudos Mr. X.

The Spanish MTV is called "Sol" and I was in a bar the other day and this video came on and its freaking awesome. The band is Hola A Todo El Mundo and they sing in English. The lyrics can be funny at times. "Our nature is not a trap" hehe.
